A poem generator, a model that creates a recipe for you, tells you the side effects of a drug…. We deduced this from the largest NLP hackathon in Spanish IN THE WORLD held to date. The goal was to democratize natural language processing in Spanish and create more NLP resources in this language. This objective has been achieved with the training and implementing of several PLN (NLP) models that are explained below.

This model, created by the Knowledge Engineering Institute, is intriguing to say the least. How does it work? We ask a question to the model (both by audio and by text) related to the medical field.
What is a migraine? What side effects does ibuprofen have?
The model will search a database and compose a response, both textually and audibly.
Basically, it will be possible to have a consultation with artificial intelligence! Although it is not a doctor, it is very useful to deduce the side effects of medication or the symptoms of a disease.

Poem generator

If Bécquer raised his head… Artificial intelligence can even create poems! In this model you can select your favorite poet from a list of authors and the system will generate a text in the style of the chosen writer.
Further, you can decide if you want the poem to be sad or happy, you can even suggest 3 words to introduce in the poem. Who wouldn’t have wanted this for high school?

Spanish to Náhuatl

Minority languages have always suffered discrimination, since they are not studied as extensively and there are not as many resources devoted to them as, for example, to English.
The creators of the model have tried to solve this. They aim to translate Spanish to Náhuatl in a few seconds. You can try it here.

Did you assume artificial intelligence could not infiltrate the gastronomy sector? Well, think again.
The creators of this model have taken a GPT-2 and done some fine-tuning (fancy words for the food industry, huh?) so that the technology generates a recipe for you, based on a list of ingredients ascribed.
For example, imagine that you have been procrastinating going to the supermarket all week. You open the fridge and you only have pepper, yogurt and cheese. Well don’t worry, this model will generate a recipe for you to cook using these ingredients. We can not guarantee the taste however! Try it here!
Suicide prevention
Mental health is a topic that concerns everyone and that has been increasingly present in the media as of late. Often, social media can reveal a lot about a person’s feelings. Analyzing the captions and thoughts they post can be key to preventing suicide.
This is why the authors of this model have created a technology capable of detecting suicidal thoughts. The model analyzes a text and renders a verdict on the author’s intentions.
